Missouri S&T’s newest residence hall serves sophomores with apartment-style housing, community spaces, study areas, and a grand lobby with the latest in security technology.
University Commons is an apartment-style facility that houses students (primarily sophomores) in eight-person apartments. Each apartment has four bedrooms, a living room, a full kitchen, and two bathrooms. The building utilizes the latest security technology by providing access to rooms through the Student ID card.
Each floor has a large central community lounge and smaller group study rooms. A ‘Z’ shaped plan breaks down the scale of the building and reduces the lengths of the corridors. Windows and small seating areas at the end of each corridor bring in natural light and provide a small study spot.
The project was constructed in about half the time as a typical project of this scope by using efficient construction methods and materials, including an integrated prefabricated panel system designed for quick assembly and immediate weather-proof capabilities.
