University of Nebraska - East Campus Housing
Located two miles from the main University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, East Campus is home to science and agricultural programs along with medical professional programs. The new East Campus housing is the area's first new residential project in over 50 years and will provide the majority of on-campus housing for students ranging from freshmen through graduate students. To meet the diverse needs of this wide range of residents, the new housing includes 240 traditional beds and 130 apartment beds. The traditional housing is arranged in 30-resident RA communities, subdivided into 10-person pods, each with a small community bathroom. The apartments are primarily comprised of four single bedrooms; there are a few two bedrooms units and studios.
The building's traditional exterior design is consistent with the historic buildings on campus, using the university brick blend with cast stone trim and aluminum windows. A tower element defines the main entry point. A courtyard provides private space for residents. The structure consists of concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls with concrete plank floors, providing excellent sound separation between units.
KWK Architects was the bridging architect for this design-build project.
